It’s A Bummer When Pesach Cleaning Keeps You From Blogging

I know, I’ve neglected my blog as of late, and the truth is, it will get worse before it gets better. At the same time, I wanted to just give a shout out to those wonderful, (some call them extremists, I call them idealists) Jews who are going to march up to Homesh today. For those readers not familiar, Homesh was one of the settlements destroyed almost two years ago during the disengagement. I know a number of families who used to live there. What the above article doesn’t mention is the fact that they plan to hold a brit milah (ritual circumcision) there tomorrow. Limor HarMelech, a former resident of Homesh whose husband Shalom was killed in a terror attack, remarried and just gave birth to a boy. They want to make the brit in Homesh. So in addition to the marchers and the IDF, it seems that Eliyahu HaNavi will be present also.

The idealists in Hebron have done their best to start off the commemorations of the victories of the Six Day War 40 years ago, and they have done it in the most non-violent of ways possible. They bought an apartment builiding in Hebron, (ignore the word “raid” in the title of the article) which will G-d willing house tens of Jewish families. This took years of careful planning and fundraising, and they had to do it secretly and through a number of intermediaries. This was to make sure that the deal would go through, and that the Arab owners who sold the building would be far away when the deal became public (Arabs who sell property to Jews are given a death sentence, literally. That is why no matter how well documented the sale is, they always deny its legality).

The Haggadah (the book detailing what we say at the Passover seder) tells about how in every generation our enemies rise up in order to destroy us, and Hashem saves us every time. I think that in every generation there are very special Jews who become leaders and are worthy of our admiration. These Jews are just some of them.
