Turning a Blind Eye

I know, I know, I’ve lived in Israel for 20 years already and I should be used to it, but it still amazes me that the left-wing media is so biased.

Yesterday a young Jewish man took a “wrong” turn on his way home to Maaleh Adumim, and was set upon by Arabs who tried to lynch him. This took place in the Arab neighborhood of Issawiya in Jerusalem. A few Arabs saved him from the others, until the Border police and ambulances arrived. Part of the reason that some Arab villages like these are “discriminated against” and don’t receive services by Jews (trash collection, for example) is because the Jews are afraid to go there.

Ynet carried the story. The Jerusalem Post had a short blurb last night and has not carried the story further.

Haaretz, of course, has ignored it completely.

Now just imagine what the press would have done if the story went like this: An Arab man took a wrong turn and went into a yishuv, and was set upon by Jews who tried to lynch him.

Do you think that Haaretz would ignore the story? Never. The headlines would be full of it for days, with various prominent members of the “elite” calling for action.

Still can’t get over it.

I hear ya, girlfriend. A variation on the theme has been bothering me a lot lately. Stay tuned — if I can get the words to come out.

I was “happy” to see Channel 10 picked up the story and ran it on the 8pm news tonight and showed an interview with him from his hospital bed. But I still absolutely hear what you are saying and yes that happens all the time.

MDA doesn’t go to those neighborhoods, not because they are afraid, but because they have an official agreement with the Palestinian Red Crescent that the PRC will deal with all calls to the “Arab” neighborhoods of Jerusalem.

United Hatzalah, on the other hand DOES go to all these neighborhoods, and in fact works in tandem with Moslem volunteer medics who are part of United Hatzalah (and this is helping keep the PRC and the PA out of Jerusalem)…much to the dismay of MDA.
