Seven Years Later, and Nothing Has Changed

While this past Sunday’s events took most of the headlines, the day was marked in a different way by my neighbor. Sunday was the 11th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar, and was the day seven years ago that Arab terrorists killed Tali Hatuel, a woman eight months pregnant, and her four young daughters. They shot her and her children in cold blood as they were traveling in their station wagon. Tali was my neighbor’s sister. Five years ago I wrote about their yahrzheit here.

Seven years ago there were some in Israel that thought peace would be on its way. Arik Sharon was going to move all of the Jews out of Gush Katif, and the Arabs were going to get what they (supposedly) wanted – the “end of the occupation”. The Jews were kicked out of Gaza, and……..the Arabs burned the synagogues to the ground, looted and destroyed the greenhouses, and continued firing rockets, this time into Sderot and the kibbutzim near the border with Gaza. 10,000 Jews were displaced from their homes, and instead of bringing peace it just served as a reward for the terrorists.

Now the Arabs are again calling for a state of their own, in the pre-1967 Israeli borders. Supposedly, if they get that, then they will negotiate a peace agreement with the Israelis. There is only one catch though. On Sunday they rioted in many places in Israel, a terrorist killed one and injured 17 in Tel-Aviv, and other Arabs from the surrounding countries tried to storm our borders and in one case succeeded. This was all on the day they call the Nakba – which commemorates the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, before there were any Jews living in Judea and Samaria. If they still commemorate this date by trying to kill Jews in Tel-Aviv, then why would anyone think it will be different if we give them territory in Judea and Samaria?

Whatever happens in September in the UN will not change the reality here in Israel. The Arabs hate us and want to kill us and completely destroy the State of Israel. It is part of Islam, and Hamas states this openly. They are planning to attack us again, and we will fight back and win, again. The only question is when, and how many Arab countries will pile on.

Don’t you hate “the Arabs” too? Don’t you want to kill them too? You want to win, you want power. How is it that your want for power is better and more righteous than “the Arabs” want for power? This is not a holy war, this is a political war. God? God – the God you believe in is the same God I believe in who is the same God our Muslim brothers and sisters believe in. He is an all loving God and wants us to live in peace. These wars – the ones committed in the name of my religion, the ones committed in the name of yours, and the ones committed in the name of Islam does not represent the teachings of our three beautiful faith traditions, nor do they represent the word of God Himself. Just as there are extremists of my faith who call for wars in the name of it, I strongly believe that those who act in violence in the name of Islam are extremists in that faith too.

I will continue to pray for all of us, that one day we will live as our faiths call us to live, side by side, as brother and sister. I will pray for your family to be at peace, I will pray for you to be at peace, I will pray that none of your sons or daughters are harmed by this violence, I will pray that your little daughter becomes less and less frightened of her Palestinian neighbors. I will pray for myself, I will ask God to continue to let me celebrate the joys of your family and be able to see our common humanity, even in the face of what you write about your Palestinian and other Arab neighbors, words that I don’t understand and bring unwanted anger into my heart.

There is a big difference: Arab Muslim culture preaches hated of the Other day and night, at every opportunity. Murder of innocents is culturally approved and sanctioned. How many societies can claim for their raison d’etre the extermination of another nation? Except for the Nazis and the Palestinians I cannot recall such a thing in history. Although the be fair, the Nazis had other ideals as well – the Palestinians really don’t.

Very few Jews hate Arabs and they are culturally marginalized and legally discouraged. Can you imagine if Israel celebrated “Baruch Goldstein Day”? But state celebration of murderers of Jews is a daily practice in the Palestinian territories.

In summary – there is a big difference.

Brooke, in the words of Dr. House, you’re an idiot. Sorry, but at times one must be blunt. Your previous comment added to this shows clearly your ignorance of the past. I suggest reading some books..even going to wikpedia! Sheesh!

    Greetings…

Sorry to hear about the tragic, senseless killings of innocent people, especially a Mother and her young children–there’s no need, or justification for that–shame on them!

May G-d continue to protect Israel from her enemies, and enhance Israel’s existence with prosperity and peace. Shalom.

Brooke – I don’t want power, I want to live in peace in my ancestral homeland. By the way, I don’t have a daughter, so I am not sure if you really read my post or if you cut and paste your comment on all Israeli blogs….

    Yossi – great comment

Robert – um, sometimes it is hard to accept other people’s ignorance. You should know, though, that even many American Jews are very misinformed about Israel, so you shouldn’t hold this against Brooke.

Alan – thanks for stopping by and for your blessings. It is always nice to be supported.

Brooke – The Jews have never wanted the destruction of the Arabs. Many Arabs, on the other hand, want the destruction of the Jews. If you read what they say in Arabic, it will be apparent to you that they will never be satisfied as long as Israel exists. It doesn’t matter how much territory is given over – we could satisfy all their desires and they still would NOT stop until the last Jew was dead and Israel was destroyed. You underestimate them.

I believe that the resolution attempt in the United Nations will create significant anger in the surrounding Muslim countries. I am not sure if they get the resolution passed or not. If they do, Israel will not stand for it. If they don’t, they will be unified against Israel. Either way, they will align themselves more, and plan an assault. These countries include Turkey, Russia (Georgia), Libya, Ethiopia, and some eastern Europe countries, as well as Palestinians, Syria, and Iran. There will be an attempted aerial invasion coming from a northerly direction into Israel. America, Western Europe, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and parts of South America will not get involved at all, but will denounce the attack. Israel will be left a sitting duck, alone and without friends. But, the attack fails at the time when it begins to launch. 5/6ths of the armies invading will die on the mountains of Israel, and only 1/6th of them will be left alive, fleeing back North. A tremendous fire will burn through Russia following them. It will take 7 months to bury the dead, and they will be buried in Israel in a valley. Israel will declare a holiday, and in a single day, they will turn back to their God with all their might. They will realize that God is back with them, and every descendent of every tribe will be brought back to Israel. Not one will be left anywhere else, including America. They will be revived, and they will rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount. The Dome of the Rock will not have to be torn down, because it will fall to the ground during the invasion when an earthquake strikes. At first, Israel will put up a tent/Tabernacle on the Temple Mount, but will let it stand while the Temple is rebuilt. It will take 220 days to rebuild the Temple. Animal sacrifices will commence. After that, look for a seven year agreement to allow those sacrifices. All this can be found in Ezekiel 38-39.
