Sweet Talk in English, The Truth in Arabic

I almost punched the computer today, after reading a New York Times op-ed about the Muslim Brotherhood and what it supposedly wants in Egypt. Oh, they sound so good in English. They sweet-talk with the best of them, using all of the buzzwords that everyone wants to hear. The problem is is that they are lying, and even some in the intelligence establishment in America believe them.

Some quotes from the op-ed:

“Our principles, clearly stated since the inception of the movement in 1928, affirm an unequivocal position against violence.”

” Moving forward, we envision the establishment of a democratic, civil state that draws on universal measures of freedom and justice, which are central Islamic values.”

“We embrace democracy not as a foreign concept that must be reconciled with tradition, but as a set of principles and objectives that are inherently compatible with and reinforce Islamic tenets”

Thank G-d for Palwatch,  an organization that translates speeches and books from Arabic to English. They have translated a book by Mustafa Mashhur called Jihad is the Way. Mashhur was the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood from 1996 until 2002.

Some quotes:

“…know your status, and believe firmly that you are the masters of the world, even if your enemies desire your degradation…” (Where is the democracy if you are the masters of the world?)
“It should be known that Jihad and preparation towards Jihad are not only for the purpose of fending-off assaults and attacks of Allah’s enemies from Muslims, but are also for the purpose of realizing the great task of establishing an Islamic state and strengthening the religion and spreading it around the world…”

“Islam has dedicated much attention to the issue of Jihad and militancy and recruiting the nation and gathering it all in one line in order to defend the truth with all its might; it [Islam] has rendered Jihad a religious duty for every Muslim, which no [Muslim] can escape, and has aroused the will towards [performing] Jihad to the greatest degree; It has greatly increased the rewards for the Mujahidun (Jihad warriors) and the Shahids (Martyrs), and has threatened the procrastinators and those who avoid Jihad with the most terrible punishments” (Where is the non-violence here?)

Unequivocal position against violence? Universal measures of freedom? Sweet talking lies – and the liberal world eats it up.

“Aha! So, you wanted to punch the computer? You see – more proof that settlers are inhumanly violent and should be murdered wholesale.”

I’m guessing that would be the reaction of any normal NY Times writer to your criticism.

Hilarious. The Muslim Brotherhood only began making noises against violence when the government in Egypt under Nasser crushed their attempts at gaining power.
