In Fear of Climate Change, Shomron Style

I don’t know what is happening in other yishuvim, but by us they are building up a storm. 15 families that got stuck by the last building freeze are hurrying to put in foundations for their private homes before the next one (G-d forbid) hits us. In another part of the yishuv Amana is building 56 units – four and six family apartments at once.

Which means, practically speaking, that the bulldozers (moves the earth around), buggers (which dig into the hard rock), and the machine that does the micropile (takes the boulders and pulverizes them to smithereens, which are then used to make the foundations) are working practically non-stop. Just this morning they sent out an SMS saying that the work would be continuing into the late evening, due to the threat of another freeze.

Those living near the building sites are “suffering” – lots of noise and vibrations, and huge amounts of dust in the air. On the other hand the veteran members of the yishuv remind everyone that they too had to live with these inconveniences, and it is really not a huge price to pay to build up Eretz Yisrael. Those of us who lived through the various Intifada’s/Oslo War can point to real “mesiras nefesh” (sacrificing oneself) that others suffered. It puts everything in perspective.
