Deniers Everywhere

They caught the man who tried to kidnap Elie Wiesel while he was attending a conference in San Francisco. Police detained Eric Hunt, a known Holocaust denier, at a substance abuse center in New Jersey, and will extradite him to California where he will stand trial. I couldn’t help but see the irony of one of the lines in the article. It states that Wiesel was attending an interfaith conference “on non-violent conflict resolution when he was accosted”. I’m sure that the police used non-violent means to bring him into custody, and the judges will use non-violent means to try him, where he will then spend time in jail dealing with his fellow prisoners non-violently. 😉

The other denier in the news this morning is Raed Salah, who claims that the Western Wall is not Jewish at all and that it is an inseparable part of the Al-Aksa Mosque. The level of chutzpah is amazing, considereing that the Temple was built about 1600 years before Muhammed was even a twinkle in his mother’s eye.

As a matter of fact, I admire the man, in a wierd sort of way. If you are going to lie and not face reality, than why not do it in a big way? Any dumb politician can get away with white lies – he is going for the gold, as it were, by coming out with this statement. The sad part is that a lot of Muslims will believe it, like all anti-Semites who believe crazy lies about Jews, and that it will help Salah politically.

I’d like to know how non-violent conflict resolution could have prevented the Holocaust.

I’m sorry, but this idiocy about the Kotel almost had me doubled over in hysterics, because I’d frickin’ cry otherwise.

Next he’ll be saying that gefilte fish is a Muslim delicacy.

    Buttheads, everywhere.

They worry me, nonetheless…..a history major requires a field of specialization and mine ended up being the use of propaganda in the rise and maintenance of totalitarian regimes (specifically in the USSR and Nazi Germany)….the parallels with today’s Big Lies go beyond scary…in their heyday, the Nazi’s never went as far the Islamic extremists and their propaganda, which is spread farther and faster by mass media and oil money.

You realize the absurdity of denying 15 years of Jewish history places someone outside the pale, but someone who denies 2000 years of Jewish history is a partner for peace. Go figure.

mom – yeah, I’d like to know that too!

Erica – Muslim gefilta fish, hmmmm….

aliyah06 – yes, they do know how to use the Big Lie. Problem is (for them) that they really don’t know when something is a lie or the truth, which I think will always be the downfall of their people. You can’t build a country and take care of your people if you are always unrealistic – and blame others for your problems.

soccerdad – “denying 15 years of Jewish history” refers to….?

The Holocaust. Hitler came to power in 1933 didn’t he?
    So it’s 12 years.
