Sirens on the Radio – War in Real Time

6:40 pm: There is a report of sirens sounding in Tel Aviv, and they heard an explosion!

Full names of the dead in Kiryat Malachi have not been released yet, but reporters are saying that the woman killed was a Lubavitch chassid who was living in India, but came to Israel in order to give birth to her baby, and to participate in a memorial service for Gabi and Rivky Holzberg, z”l, who were killed in the terrorist attack in Mumbai exactly four years ago. The Hebrew date of the attack is today. Her husband and four year old son were both seriously hurt and are being operated on now. The other two people killed in the same apartment building are also believed to be Lubavitch chassidim.

Since midnight 200 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza.

4:45 pm: Sirens are sounding farther north in Israel – in Rishon LeZion and in Rechovot. These areas are not far from the southern part of Tel Aviv.

1:50 pm: The terrorists in Gaza changed the location of Jabari’s burial at the last minute due to “security reasons”. The top Hamas members are now running scared, because they know they are in the gunsights.

Sometimes a map is worth a thousand words:

12:15 pm: Direct hit of a rocket to a house in Sderot, no injuries reported.

11:30 am: There will be a demonstration in support of the IDF in response to a demonstration by those in favor of Hamas. Today, at Tel Aviv University at 11:30 am, Hebrew University in Jerusalem at 12:00 noon. A similar demonstration in favor of the IDF will take place in Jerusalem in front of the Prime Minister’s office at 4:00 pm. Organized by My Israel and Im Tirzu.

How does the IDF try to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza? Read here, and check out the rest of the IDF blog.

If this happened in America, what would it look like? Take a look:

Dov Lipman is organizing host families to take in those from the south that want to get away from the area for Shabbat. If you can help please go to his Facebook page and sign up.

9:10 am: Reports that there are three dead from rocket fire in Kiryat Malachi – a rocket hit a building. Others are injured, including a baby. Direct hits both in Ashdod and Ofakim, no injuries reported yet.

7:50 am: I have the radio on here in Israel and they are reporting in real time when the sirens go off signalling incoming rockets. Now the sirens are going off in Beersheva. The people have less than a minute to run to the shelters. Just ten minutes ago a rocket was intercepted on its way to Ashdod.  Sirens are going off in Ashkelon.

The IDF is preparing for a serious increase in rocket fire around 11:00 am this morning, when the funeral for the killed terrorist Jabari will take place.

The IDF is warning the residents of Gaza to stay away from Hamas strongholds – they are distributing leaflets above Gaza in Arabic. This is just one step that the IDF takes in order to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza.
